Barnes and Noble reaches out to the community

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - As Region 8 residents hustle to get final Christmas purchases, some might want to consider heading straight to a local book store. The Barnes and Noble location in Jonesboro at the Turtle Creek Mall is holding Book Fair Program.

This program works with a number of non profit organizations, theatre and art foundations, and local schools.

Community Relations Manager for Barnes and Noble, Christopher Clark, says this program is open to a wide range of people. "The Barnes and Noble book fair program is a great way for our company to outreach to the community, " Clark said. "We can help schools and organizations whether they need funds to build a new playground or maybe they just want to add all the new current titles to their library. We can help them do that by raising funds."

Clark says this is also a great opportunity for Region 8 residents to learn about the organizations or schools they're holding the book fairs for. "This program allows organizations to partner with us, celebrate their talents in the store and even show them off to the community. This pulls in extra customers and excites people about their programs."

But just because it's called "The Book Fair Program" doesn't mean customers are limited to the purchase of just books. "Customers are able to support the school or organization in a variety of ways, " Clark said. "They may purchase any book, DVD, CD or even if you just want to grab a cup of coffee or a whole cheesecake in our cafe, you can do that as well. All you have to do is let us know that you're participating in the book fair and it's as simple as that."

Employees at the Jonesboro Barnes and Noble location has been holding this program since they first opened the doors in 2006. Clark says this is a way they get to give back to the community. "Some of the most fun the employees, here, have is getting to work with our community and getting to see all the excitement going along. Whether it's a holiday drive or the Book Fair Program that brings in people from all over our are, we really get to become involved and enjoy seeing the people we get to help."

A number of book fairs will be taking place during the holiday season. December 9th is a book fair for CASA, and December 10th will be for the school Blessed Sacrament.

Proceeds on December 17th will go toward the Nettleton Junior High and December 27th a book fair will be held for Ridgefield Christian School.
