JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – Jonesboro remembered the service and sacrifice of the military Saturday morning. Seven local veterans gathered at Oaklawn Cemetery for a Wreaths Across America ceremony.
The Civil Air Patrol sponsored the event alongside the American Legion. Veterans laid seven ceremonial wreaths and 16 sponsored wreaths at the cemetery. The event was held at the same time as more than 300 ceremonies across the country.
"It's so special for us to remember the veterans and their sacrifice to our country because it's what our country was founded on, was our freedom," said Marilyn Spurlock, Civil Air Patrol captain. "Without that, who knows what we would be?"
This is the third year for Jonesboro's wreath laying ceremony, and Spurlock expects the tradition to continue. The wreaths will remain at Oaklawn until January 10.
