Region 8 man shot to death early Sunday morning

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KAIT) -- Poplar Bluff Police have taken a Region 8 man into custody following an early morning shooting Sunday. According to a news release, 23-year old Paris Thomas was taken into custody and booked for outstanding warrants in Butler County on a narcotics offense. Police say Thomas is wanted for questioning in the shooting death of 29-year old Marcus McFarland.

Police say officers responded to a shooting in the 1100 block of Benton Street shortly before 4:00 Sunday morning. Police say McFarland was found with a single gunshot wound to his stomach. He was found sitting in a vehicle in the road.

McFarland was taken to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, where he later died of his injuries.

Investigators with the Poplar Bluff Police Department, Butler County Sheriff's Office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drugs and Crime Control are investigating the shooting.
