From Arkansas State University
Highlighted by Defensive Player of the Year selection Brandon Joiner, the Arkansas State football team had 12 players selected to the College Sports Madness All-Sun Belt Conference team, the website announced Friday.
Joiner, who was also named the SBC Defensive Player of the Year, led the league with 12 quarterback sacks, a figure that also ranked fourth nationally and was the second most in Arkansas State and Sun Belt conference history. He recorded four sacks in the Red Wolves 30-21 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette earlier this season, a mark that tied him for the most sacks in a game in school history.
Senior quarterback Ryan Aplin, senior wide out Dwayne Frampton, senior offensive lineman Tom Castilaw and senior defensive back Darryl Feemster joined Joiner as first-team selections.
Senior defensive lineman Dorvus Woods, senior linebacker Demario Davis and senior defensive back Kelcie McCray were tabbed as second-team selections.
ASU's third-team selections were senior defensive back Darron Edwards, senior offensive lineman Delano Moore, junior linebacker Nathan Herrold and sophomore kicker Brian Davis.
The ASU offense led the SBC in both total and scoring offense this season. The Red Wolves ranked second in the league with 164.8 rushing yards per game and were second in passing with 288.7 yards per game. Aplin led the Sun Belt in total offense with 320 yards per game and was just the second player in SBC history to record 3,000 yards of total offense in two different seasons.
Defensively, ASU led the SBC in both scoring and total defense and ranked second in both passing and rushing defense. ASU led the league with 18 interceptions on the year and was second in the league with 32 sacks.
