February 10, 2004 - Posted at 11:34 a.m. CDT

CHARLESTON, MO - An 18-month investigation has culminated in the arrest of about three dozen people on crack trafficking charges in Charleston.

Charleston is a community of roughly 5,000 residents located about 155 miles south of St. Louis.

Officers had warrants for 45 people around Charleston and said they arrested 35 yesterday.  Seven others face charges in state court, with another three facing federal charges.  Those ten have not yet been caught.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Larry Ferrell says the arrests came after an 18-month investigation into drug trafficking in the area.
