Pedestrian hit in Corning

CORNING, AR (KAIT) – The holiday weekend gets off to a bad start in Corning after a car on Hwy 67 hit a pedestrian.

According to Lieutenant Jimmy Leach, with the Corning Police Department, a woman from Melbourne was struck while trying to cross the highway in front of the Corning Wal-Mart at 8:28 Friday morning.

He says the victim was alert and talking when paramedics arrived, but the extent of her injuries is unknown. The woman was airlifted to The Med in Memphis, but Lt. Leach says the helicopter may have stopped in Jonesboro.

The woman's name has not been released pending the notification of her family.
