From Harding University
Harding men's basketball did not close out 2011 as it had hoped. The Bisons lost their last four games, including two in Austin, Texas, at the St. Edward's Holiday Classic, but have a chance to turn things around Tuesday when they host Shepherd Tech at the Rhodes Field House. Tip-off is at 7:30 p.m., and the game will air live in Searcy on KVHU-95.3 FM. Live stats and live audio will be available on HardingSports.com.
Harding enters the game with a 4-5 record and looks to even its mark before beginning its first season in Great American Conference play on Jan. 7 when it hosts Southern Arkansas.
At the St. Edward's Holiday Classic, Harding ran into a pair of teams that had outstanding shooting efforts against the Bisons. Texas A&M-Commerce shot 59 percent from the field and made 19-of-24 in the second half in its 82-67 victory over Harding on Dec. 18. Host St. Edward's then shot 58 percent against Harding and made 17 3-pointers in the 99-81 victory on Dec. 19.
Harding has a trio of players averaging more than 10 points through the season's first nine games. Reserve guard DeAntra Scott, a junior who transferred to Harding from Shawnee Community College, averages a team-high 13.0 points. Juniors Bradley Spencer and Zach Roddenberry average 12.3 points.
Shepherd Tech, a small Christian school located in Millington, Tenn., will be playing its fifth NCAA Division II opponent in Harding. The Eagles have lost each of the first four by an average of 50.5 points, including a 123-50 loss to Arkansas-Ft. Smith. Shepherd Tech also has losses to Delta State, Henderson State and Arkansas-Monticello.
