BAXTER COUNTY, AR (KAIT) – The Baxter CountySheriff's Department is continuing to investigate a beating that happened inPigeon Creek Park off Highway 201 north.
According to police, the departmentreceived a 911 call at 10:19 p.m. from a driver who said he found a bloodiedman lying on the ground in the park. Officers say they arrived to find an incoherent71-year-old Herman R. Hackworth, of Mountain Home, lying approximately 30 feetfrom his white minivan.
Sometime later, police say they spoke withAdam M. Mudgett, 27 about the incident after his wife called in to report afight that had happened in the same area.. According to Investigator TreyEdings, Mudgett said Hackworth had approached him and started a conversation,but after a few minutes, an altercation broke out. The investigator saysMudgett then said he hit Hackworth two or three times causing him to fall andthen went home.
According to Sheriff John Montgomery,Hackworth was taken by ambulance to Baxter Regional Medical Center and laterflown by Air-EVac Life Team to Cox Hospital in Springfield, Missouri withserious head injuries.
The investigation continues topinpoint the cause of the altercation and possible charges.
