POINSETT COUNTY, AR (KAIT) – A Region 8 man charged with manslaughter in the death of a 24-year-old woman on New Year's Day appeared in court Monday.

Carlos Coronado, 28, of Poinsett County, will appear in court on October 13th.

According to the Poinsett County Sheriff's Department,around 12:30 New Year's morning sheriff's deputies responded to a shooting at6790 Mills Lane.

Coronado is accused of shooting Karrie Deshae Shadwick.

Police say the couple was celebrating the New Year byshooting off guns. Witnesses tell police the couple were playing and pointingguns at one another, when Coronado shot his 9mm gun and killed Shadwick.

According to police, Coronado told police he thought the gunwas empty. Shadwick's body has been sent to the Arkansas State Medical Examiner'sOffice for an autopsy.
