Poinsett County man pleads guilty to negligent homicide

A Poinsett County man was sentenced to six months suspended imposition of sentence and ordered to 135 days in jail in connection with the death of a woman on January 1, 2012.

According to the Arkansas Office of the Courts, Carlos Coronado, 29, of Poinsett County pleaded guilty to negligent homicide, a Class A misdemeanor on October 31, 2014.

Coronado was arrested for shooting Karrie Deshae Shadwick at 12:20 New Year's morning at 6790 Mills Lane. Shadwick died from the gunshot.

According to police, the couple was celebrating the new year by shooting guns. Witnesses told police the two were pointing the guns at one another when Coronado shot his 9mm handgun, killing Shadwick.

According to police, Coronado told investigators he thought the gun was empty.
