Region 8 community opens doors to help local youth

MARKED TREE, AR (KAIT) - One Region 8 community opened its doors Wednesday to help local youth.

Representatives from Youth Outreach Ministries in Marked Tree invited the public to come out Wednesday afternoon to celebrate the completion of their new building.

Marked Tree Mayor Wayne Nichols told Region 8 News that this is something the community needs.

"There are children, I understand, that are not getting the nutrition they need, getting three meals a day," Nichols said.

Youth Outreach hopes to alleviate that problem with their program. They also intend to help students with their studies.

Youth Outreach Ministries Board President Bill Craft said there's been a need for a program like this for some time now.

"I feel it's been a terrible need for some time," Craft told Region 8 News. "How big? We'll find out when the kids start coming in. You can never do enough for kids. You need to keep them off the streets, course our primary goal is to lead them to Christ."

The program is modeled after City Youth Ministries in Jonesboro. The building took about a year to complete.
