Local Church Celebrates Black HIstory

New Mount Olive MB Church celebrated blast history month recently.  Keynote speaker Chancellor Lawrence A. Davis from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff spoke to the packed church about his life of growing up.

The focus of the day was on the landmark case Brown vs. the Board of Education.  The Supreme Court ruled segregation was in its core unequal.  Paving the way for desegregation in American schools.

Davis told the crowd he doesn't blame anyone but feels bad decisions since the decision have left many no better off than they were fifty years ago.  While questioning decisions made he also focused on the present.  Hinting he hoped the past Special Session would help to improve schools state wide.

The Mississippi County Black Cultural Association hosted the event.  Congressman Marion Berry and Attorney General Mike Beebe attended the service along with other local elected officials.
