Red Wolves tour USS Alabama & hold final bowl practice

MOBILE, Ala. (ASU) — The Arkansas State football team was treated to a luncheon and tour of the USS Alabama Saturday morning as part of the activities leading up to Sunday's Bowl.

Players, coaches, administrators, staff members and fans enjoyed a barbeque lunch before going on a walking tour of the USS Alabama.  One of the highlights of the Red Wolves' Bowl experience, the players spent over an hour taking pictures and videos while touring thebattleship and the various aircraft in the park.

"Today's luncheon and tour of the USS Alabama was a great experience for our young men and everyone associated with our football program," said ASU interim head coach David Gunn.  "It was obvious that the players enjoyed themselves by the amount of guys taking pictures and videos on the battleship.  We are extremely appreciative of the Bowl and the city ofMobile for the generosity and hospitality they have shown us, and today was no exception."

Following the tour, the Red Wolves traveled to the University of South Alabama for their final practice heading into the Bowl.  The Red Wolves went through a light walk-through to put the final touches on their game day preparations.

"It has been a very good week for us," added Gunn.  "Our guys have certainly embraced everything that the Bowl has offered to us.  It has been a fun week but it has been a focused week.  Our team has shown maturity as far as balancing pleasure with business, and so all that is left for us to do is take the field tomorrow night and show what this team is capable of doing."

Arkansas State (10-2) will take on Northern Illinois (10-3) in the Jan. 8 Bowl. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. and the game will be televised nationally by ESPN.
