HAYTI, MO - Two Paragould men are in custody in southeast Missouri today following their weekend arrest on drug-related charges by the Bootheel Drug Task Force.

29-year-old Gary Cunningham and 23-year-old Michael Markum were arrested early Saturday morning after allegedly attempting to steal anhydrous ammonia from the Peach Orchard Gin in Pemiscot County.  Anhydrous ammonia is a chemical used in fertilizer, but is also used as a prime ingredient in the manufacture of methamphetamine.

According to a news release, the two suspects were caught "in the act" of stealing the chemical from a large tank at the gin.

The release also says that Cunningham and Markum have both since confessed to drug task force agents.  The two are being held on a $10,000 bond.
