February 16, 2004 - Posted at 4:20 p.m. CDT

NAIROBI, KENYA - A woman whose been the subject of rumors linking her to John Kerry is denying that she ever had an affair with him.

Alexandra Polier is breaking her silence, four days after the allegations surfaced on the Internet.

She issued a statement to The Associated Press, which says: "I have never had a relationship with Senator Kerry, and the rumors in the press are completely false."

Kerry has already denied reports that he had an extramarital affair.  And his campaign says today that he'll have no further comment.

Polier's statement was released to the AP in Nairobi, Kenya.  She's there visiting the parents of her fiance.

She had previously worked as an editorial assistant for the AP in New York.

Polier says whoever is spreading what she calls "these rumors and allegations" does not know her.

She appealed to the media to respect her privacy and her family's privacy.

She also takes issue with reports that she had been a Kerry intern.  Polier says she never worked or interned for Kerry.
