SENATH, MO (KAIT) - A Region 8 man accused of sodomy and child molestation was sentenced in court Tuesday.
A Missouri judge has sentenced Steven Abbot to 12 years in prison.
Senath Police say the charges stem from an incident that happened in January of 2010.

SENATH, MO (KAIT)- A Senath man accused of sodomy and child molestation, was convicted of those charges Tuesday by a Dunklin County jury.
According to the Senath Police Department, Steven R. Abbott has been convicted of Statutory Sodomy in the 1st Degree and Child Molestation in the 1st Degree. Police state the charges stem from an incident that happened on January 23, 2010 in Senath.
The jury, made up of nine women and three men, took 40 minutes to render their decision. Sentencing for Abbott is scheduled for February 23rd. According to the news release, the child molestation charge carries a punishment of five to fifteen years. The range of punishment for the sodomy charge is five years to life in prison.
Abbott is now in the custody of the Dunklin County Sheriff's Office.
