Two injured in White County house fire

WHITE COUNTY, AR (KAIT) – An early morning fire sends two people to the hospital in the Kensett area Thursday.

According to the White County Sheriff's Department, the fire started around 8am Thursday morning at 1241 North Street in Kensett.

When the fire department arrived, 46-year-old Donnie Mulherin told firefighters that his wife, 42-year-old Darlene Ritter was still inside. The Kensett Fire Department cut a hole in the side of the house and was able to rescue Ritter.

She was transported to the White County Hospital and then later transported to Children's Hospital in Little Rock. Ritter was suffering from first, second, and third degree burns to multiple body parts as well as smoke inhalation. Mulherin suffered first degree burns to his hands, arms, neck, and back.

Firefighters believe the fire started by an electric heater. No foul play is suspected.
