Region 8 Dollar General refused permit to sell beer

MARMADUKE, AR (KAIT) – In September, the Dollar General Store in Marmaduke applied to sell beer on its premises, but was denied.

On Thursday the store appeared again before the Alcoholic Beverage Control Division, but was denied a second time.

According to the ABC Division, the renewal permit was refused by a 4-1 vote Thursday. No word yet on why the permit was denied.

The store located at 11257 Highway 49 in Marmaduke, originally applied to sell beer on its premises on September 22, 2011 and was refused by the Alcoholic Beverage Control Division because of local opposition.

In September 2011, the panel gave the nod to five stores each in Fort Smith, Little Rock and Pine Bluff, four each in Harrison and Paragould, and three in Fayetteville.

In November, the Dollar General Store in Marked Tree was also approved to sell beer at its store.
