JONESBORO, AR (KAIT)- A commemoration for a powerful series of earthquakes dating 200 years took place on the campus of Arkansas State University Thursday evening.
The town hall meeting discussed the 1811 and 1812 New Madrid Seismic Zone Earthquakes. It was held by the Arkansas Department of Emergency management. Speakers for the event included a researcher from the Center for Earthquake Research and Information. Also professors from the University of Massachusetts Boston and the University of Arkansas spoke.
Awareness of the major earthquakes that hit the Mississippi River Valley was the focus of the meeting.
