POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KAIT) - Ag Expo 2012 began Friday afternoon at the Black River Coliseum in Poplar Bluff.
It's fun for the whole family this year, according to Program Director Phyllis Flanigan.
"This is our 26th year. We've had the same sponsors, the Butler County University of Missouri Extension Council and the Ag Club at Three Rivers College."
Nearly 120 exhibits have been set up, so there will be plenty of activities for young and old.
"We're just here to promote agriculture and its importance to the economy."
But Three Rivers College Ag Club Advisor Joyce Rehkop and other organizers are concerned that a new bill would hurt local, small farming families.
The bill would restrict child labor on family farms.
"So we're going to do seminars to educate people on how that can negatively impact farm families and any child or teenager that wants to work in the farm sector."
From duck-calling to photography, and baking to tractor-driving, competitions will be starting up Saturday morning.
Seven businesses have also pulled together for a youth scavenger hunt.
And with exhibitors now traveling from greater distances, it's sure to be a spectacular showcase.
