Man accused in Jonesboro stabbing death appears in court

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – The man accused of stabbing another man to death in late January appeared in a Craighead County courtroom Wednesday.

According to the Craighead County Prosecutor's Office, Luis Enrique Alehandro Serano-Cantana's murder case has been continued to August 29.

According to Jonesboro Police, 42-year-old Victor Mantel Ramirez Mendez was found stabbed to death on the morning of January 24, with his hands tied together. He was found on Wilkins Avenue near the intersection of Market Place Drive after a caller reported a person lying in the street.

Serano-Cantana told police he and two other Hispanic males were driving around, drinking and huffing air duster when something went wrong.

Serano-Cantana was then pulled over and arrested on traffic charges near where the body was found. A knife was found in the drivers side floorboard, and appeared to have blood on it.

Serano-Cantana told police he only knows the two suspects as Juan and El Weyo. Serano told police, the two Hispanic males killed Mendez and left him at an unknown location.

Jonesboro Police released a photo of a person of interest in the stabbing. JPD is looking for the man who was captured on video at the Country Liquor Store on Highway 1 south on the night of the January 23.

Serano-Cantana is set to appear back in court on August 29, with a tentative trial of September 10.
