Man accused in Jonesboro stabbing death appears in court

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT)– The man accused of stabbing another man to death in late January appeared ina Craighead County courtroom Wednesday.

According to the Craighead County Prosecutor's Office,Luis Enrique Alehandro Serano-Cantana's murder case has been continued to August29.

According to Jonesboro Police, 42-year-old Victor MantelRamirez Mendez was found stabbed to death on the morning of January 24, withhis hands tied together. He was found on Wilkins Avenue near the intersectionof Market Place Drive after a caller reported a person lying in the street.

Serano-Cantana told police he and two other Hispanicmales were driving around, drinking and huffing air duster when something wentwrong.

Serano-Cantana was then pulled over and arrested ontraffic charges near where the body was found. A knife was found in the driversside floorboard, and appeared to have blood on it.

Serano-Cantana told police he only knows the twosuspects as Juan and El Weyo. Serano told police, the two Hispanic males killedMendez and left him at an unknown location.

Jonesboro Police released a photo of a person ofinterest in the stabbing. JPD is looking for the man who was captured on videoat the Country Liquor Store on Highway 1 south on the night of the January 23.

Serano-Cantana is set to appear back in court on August29, with a tentative trial of September 10.
