MEMPHIS, TN (Redbirds) – The Memphis Redbirds released the confirmed promotions for the 2012 season today.
The schedule includes 12 firework shows, nine giveaways and five different entertainment appearances, along with Mother's Day: Pink in the Park, sponsored by DeVry University on May 13 and Faith and Family Night on June 16.
The Redbirds will host a Block Party at all Friday home games (excluding April 27). Gates will open two hours prior to the first pitch. Fans are invited to enjoy live music and drink specials in the AutoZone Park Plaza.
April 14 the Redbirds will host Hammer Time, a tribute to former manager Chris "Hammer" Maloney, with post-game fireworks to wrap up the night. Recycle bags, sponsored by Waste Management, will be given away on April 18. Scout Night will take place April 20 with a post-game campout on the field. Jake the Diamond Dog makes his way back to Memphis on April 29 when AutoZone Park hosts their third annual "Bark in the Ballpark". In honor of former Broadcaster Charlie Lea, May 10 will be dedicated to him.
To celebrate the Girl Scouts' 100th anniversary, the Redbirds will invite troops from all over Memphis to participate in a sleepover at the ballpark on May 11 while also hosting Blues Foundation Music Night with a Memphis Blues t-shirt giveaway. The Inflatamaniacs make their way to AutoZone Park on May 25 and 26 while the World Series Trophy will appear at the ballpark May 27 through June 1. A 'Freese Out' will be held on June 1 as well with a David Freese t-shirt giveaway.
The Famous 'San Diego' Chicken who has performed at more than 8,500 games and has made over 17,000 total appearances during his career will join the Redbirds on June 29. A Memphis Chicks t-shirt giveaway will complement Throwback Night on July 6 while hot dogs and soft drinks will be priced at 50 cents per item. The Budweiser Clydesdales are scheduled to make on field appearances on August 10.
EIEI Olympics and Farmers Night will be held on August 12 that will include several contests for fans to participate in and win Redbirds prizes. Replica organ donor jersey t-shirts will be given away before the game on August 17 while a Redbird hat giveaway will take place August 24. The World Series Trophy makes its way back to Memphis August 24 through August 26 as well as St. Louis' mascot, Fredbird, who will join the Redbirds for the last fireworks show on August 25. The Redbirds will be giving away St. Louis Cardinals World Champion replica rings at a TBD game in 2012.
