Man accused in Jonesboro arson appears in court

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The man suspected in a February arson fire on Village Drive appeared in a Craighead County courtroom Thursday.

According to the Craighead County Prosecutor's Office, Brandon Kapales had his burglary and arson case continued to May 31.

According to Jonesboro Police, 30-year-old Kapales was arrested on February 11 around 10:30p in Poinsett County. 

Police say at 3:22p February 5, the Jonesboro Police and Fire Department responded to a burglary call at a house located in the 2000 block of Village Drive. Police arrived and noticed smoke coming from the house and then the fire department was dispatched. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire quickly and saved most of the structure.

The house then caught fire again around 1:30a Monday morning, destroying the home.

Kapales is set to appear in court again on May 31.
