SHARP COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - The search for a missing Sharp County inmate is over.

On February 9, an affidavit was prepared by Arkansas State Police charging Adam Mathis with third degree escape, a class C felony. This after Mathis walked away from a work detail along Highway 289. On that day, another affidavit was filed for his wife Allie Mathis. She was charged for assisting in or furnishing an implement for escape, also a class C felony.

According to the Sharp County Sheriff's Office, Adam Mathis and his wife Allie were taken into custody on Sunday by the Glenpool Police Department in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Both Adam and Allie Mathis are currently being held pending an extradition hearing.

SHARP COUNTY, AR (KAIT) – Police in Sharp County have released a new photo of an inmate who escaped from the Sharp County Jail.

According to Sharp County Sheriff Mark Counts, Adam Leory Mathis walked away from work detail at the Cherokee Village Dog Pound along Highway 289 Wednesday afternoon around 2:30pm.

Police think he's with his wife Allie, and may be driving a dark 4-door car with damage to the front and rear bumpers of the car. Police say Mathis shaved his face and head before he escaped.

Sheriff Counts says Allie Mathis came to visit her husband at the dog pound, when deputies later realized Mathis was missing.

Mathis was set to be extradited to Denton County, Missouri where he was felony warrants for forgery. Mathis is from White County originally, and his wife is from Missouri. Police are searching the Sharp County area and along the Missouri state line.
