Keith Patterson resigns position as ASU defensive coordinator

JONESBORO (ASU AND WVMETRONEWS.COM) - Arkansas State head football coach Gus Malzahn announced Friday that Keith Patterson has resigned as defensive coordinator to take a position at another NCAA FBS program.

Patterson was named ASU's defensive coordinator on Jan. 4 after spending the previous season as Pittsburgh's defensive coordinator and linebackers coach.

"We appreciate everything Coach Patterson did for us while he was here and wish him the best," said Malzahn.  "We have already started a search to fill the open position on our coaching staff as we move forward."

CBS Sports' Bruce Feldman is reporting that West Virginia is set to add Patterson to its defensive staff.

He took over as interim head coach at Pitt following the departure of Todd Graham to Arizona State following the regular season.  Before his time at Pitt, he served as a linebackers coach and defensive coordinator at Tulsa.
