2 minors could be charged as adults for robbery on ASU campus

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT)-  Three minors were taken into custody by police after a robbery on the Arkansas State University campus Friday night.  Two of them could be charged as adults.

According to the incident report filed with University Police, an officer responded to a call of an assault in progress on Aggie Road near the Lab Science West building at 10:40p Friday night.  The victim, a 23-year-old student, told police he had been walking across campus when three males started to follow him.

The student told police that one of three hit him from behind on his mouth.  They then demanded money and his cell phone.  Police say that when the man refused to give up his money and cell phone, the three took a bag of food he had bought.  University Police were able to arrest one of three, a 17-year-old, that night and the victim identified him as the person who physically assaulted him.

Text messages and e-mails from ASU went out to students describing the incident and that police were looking for the other two suspects.

On Saturday, police say the other two suspects were apprehended.  One was another 17-year-old and the other a 14-year-old, according to police.

An officer with University Police says both 17-year-olds could be charged as adults for robbery.  Charges are pending against the 14-year-old.
