Nordex announces first American order for new turbine

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – Nordex has announced its first American order for its newest turbine and a first order from Exelon.

According to head of communications, Naomi Lovinger, Nordex USA, Inc. will be supplying 34 wind turbines to Exelon Wind, LLC for the Beebe Community Wind Farm in Gratiot County, Michigan.

Lovinger says this wind farm will be the first major project worldwide and the first in the United States to use the Nordex N117/2400 turbine. This turbine is designed to maximize output in light wind conditions.

The project will be able to power more than 27,000 homes and the energy generated will be supplied to Consumers Energy of Jackson, Michigan, under a 20-year power purchase agreement, explains Lovinger.

On site work will begin May 2012 to prepare for turbine delivery starting Sept. 2012. Nordex will deliver, install, commission, and test the turbines in addition to maintaining them under a 20-year contract. Production of these turbines will happen at the Jonesboro manufacturing plant.

Nordex has also completed and planned installations in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Idaho, Colorado and Texas.
