Man pleads guilty to $9K theft from pizza eatery

De QUEEN, Ark. (AP) - Prosecutors say a manager of a Pizza Hut in De Queen has pleaded guilty to stealing nearly $9,000 from the restaurant.

Deputy Prosecutor Manya Wood said Thursday that 21-year-old James Hirshfield of De Queen was sentenced to 10 years of probation, a $2,000 fine and will have to pay $8,994 in restitution.

Wood says Hirshfield didn't make deposits at the end of the night as he should have and tried to cover the crime by turning in weekly sales reports that showed the deposits were made.

After the company, Arkansas Pizza Inc., discovered the discrepancy the corporate office contacted De Queen police.

The Texarkana Gazette reports ( ) that Hirshfield told investigators he has a wife and two young children and was having a rough time financially.
