Grand Opening for ASU's New Student Union set for March 24

MARCH 11, 2004 - Posted at 3:18 p.m. CDT

STATE UNIVERSITY, AR - The long-awaited new Student Union, an $18 million building project on the campus of Arkansas State University, will officially open on March 24.

Campus officials took possession of the building from contractors last week and are currently busy moving various offices into the building.  ASU plans to celebrate the grand opening with several events and activities.

On March 24, an 11 a.m. ribbon cutting will be held followed by various student-related activities.  Tours will be given to the public on an hourly basis.  A reception will also follow the ribbon cutting.

The 92,000-square-foot building has been in the making since 1997 when the ASU Student Government Association began promoting the idea.
