The ASU Board of Trustees made the announcement during a meeting in Reng Student Union on the Jonesboro campus at 9 a.m.
"I am very excited," Hudson told the crowd. "I told the search committee members - I don't know if I've been this excited or nervous since my wedding."
Dr. Dan Howard will remain the interim Chancellor until Hudson begins his duties May 1 and will then return to his position at Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost.
According to the Board of Trustees, Dr. Hudson has served as the Vice Chancellor of the Texas Tech University System since 2011, served as Special Assistant to the Chancellor for International Programs and Initiatives at the University of Houston System from 2010-2011, served as president of the University of Houston – Victoria from 2004-2010, and served as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at the University of Southern Mississippi from 2002-2004.
"I know how seriously people take the obligation to find the right fit and to use due diligence on the potential candidates," Hudson noted, "so it's humbling to know that that process has given me this opportunity."
Dr. Hudson has a Bachelor of Arts in history and Latin American studies from the University of Southern Mississippi, a Master of Arts degree in geography from the University of Southern Mississippi, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in geography from Clark University.
"My style is to work with a team and empower that team and to take conversations and to listen to ideas," he said, "and I'm sure that we can do that here."
