Sensory Saturday set to happen this weekend

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -  The first Sensory Saturday is happening in Jonesboro on March 3, 2012. It is an event where those with disabilities are put first at the movies. It is happening at the Malco Theatres.

Adults and children with special needs will enjoy Dr. Seuss' The Lorax while moving around and being themselves. They will offer lowered volume, dimmed lighting, and comfortable temperatures in the theatre.

Shelby Knight with the Arkansas Parent Training Center says this an important event for her son with Autism and others like him.'

"When my son was younger we had to be very careful to go to the theatre before the lights went down. The sound was an issue when he was younger and the fact he wasn't always able to whisper. He didn't understand what a whisper was and so he would announce out loud that he wanted something to eat," said Knight.

She suggest you reserve your spots by calling 870-336-2784.

The movie starts at 9:30a.m., but you're asked to arrive at 9:10a.m.

The cost is $5.50 and she says they will only accept cash.

Knight says they hope to make this a regular event.
