Power returns to downtown Jonesboro, not transformer after all

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – Electricity has returned to downtown Jonesboro after brief loss of power.

A representative with City Water and Light originally said a transformer on Flint St. blew out causing the area around Flint and Madison Streets to lose power. However, maintenance crews realized that instead of a blown transformer, wind had blown limbs into a switch.

During the outage, E911 was able to switch to a backup power system. The Jonesboro Police Department and City Hall were also affected by the outage.

Maintenance crews are currently working to prevent the problem from happening again.
