Lyon women's basketball earns at-large bid to 2012 NAIA National Championship

BATESVILLE, AR (Lyon) The Scots earned their way to the 32nd Annual NAIA Women's DI National Championship. The 2012 National Championship will be held March 14-20 at the Frankfort Convention Center in Frankfort, Kentucky. The format of the tournament will consist of a 32-team single-elimination over seven days. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $10 a session.

The Scots will take on Westmont College out of Santa Barbara, California on March 15th at 12:30pm as their first round opponent.

The Lyon College Women's Basketball team finished 29th in the National Coaches Poll with a record of 20-11 overall while sitting 4th place with a record 9-7 in TranSouth Conference regular season.

Lyon College athletic director, Kevin Jenkins, stated "This is a well-deserved honor for our women's basketball program and our athletic department as a whole. We are extremely proud of their accomplishments this year".

Head Coach Tracy Stewart-Lange commented "We are very excited to get the news our season will be extended. I am happy for the girls especially because this was their goal from beginning of preseason. They have worked extremely hard for this opportunity and it is great they are being rewarded for their efforts. It's special that this group has made history as the first women's basketball team to go to Nationals and I think it will be a great experience for them".
