Suspicious package turns out to be student art project

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – According to Arkansas State University Police, the Dean B. Ellis library has been cleared for use after a suspicious package was found.

Vice chancellor of student affairs Rick Stripling says the suspicious package turned out to be a bag containing a student's art project.

University Police were able to find the student the bag belonged to for questioning shortly after the project was spotted at 12:45 p.m. Stripling says the student explained the project to police during a brief interview.

Stripling says the emergency plan devised for such cases was executed seamlessly, and had the threat been real, the students would have been safe.

University Police were able to sweep the library and deem it safe for use in under an hour from the time the emergency call came in, adds Stripling.
