JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas agriculture experts say corn production is likely to rise in 2012 in Arkansas as cotton production may fall.
University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture economist Scott Stiles says surveys indicate cotton production will drop this growing season from 680,000 acres to 619,000 acres. It's unclear what the full corn acreage will look like, but last year it was 560,000 acres.
In 2007, Arkansas growers planted 610,000 corn acres.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture is surveying farmers to learn their planting intentions for 2012. The agency's prospective plantings report will be released March 30.
