Jonesboro storm shelter registry initiated

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT)-  Emergency officials in Jonesboro are looking to keep more residents safe with a new Storm Shelter Registry.

The registry will list information for each storm shelter like contact information, shelter address, shelter type, and where on the property it is located.  In the event of severe weather or a natural disaster, address lists and maps of affected areas can be distributed to emergency responders so those in need of assistance can be quickly located.

Emergency officials state the Storm Shelter Registry will be a valuable tool for assisting residents and encourages anyone with a safe room or storm shelter to register.

To sign-up contact E-911 Director Jeff Presley at (870) 933-4694 or email jpresley@jonesboro.org.

When registering, be prepared to provide a name, phone number, email, shelter address, shelter location, and shelter type. Your shelter information will not be shared or distributed for any reason other than to aid City of Jonesboro emergency responders.

The Geographic Information Systems department will maintain the database and the shelter addresses will be utilized to map all the storm shelter locations.
