Police plead residents to not respond to texts soliciting bank information

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – People in the Jonesboro area and other parts of the state are receiving text messages about their debit cards being locked. Jonesboro Police are warning anyone who receives these texts to ignore them.

According to Sgt. Lyle Waterworth, the text is coming from a 917 area code asking you to call a 501 number with the intent to illegally transfer funds from local banks and potentially steal identities.

Police say the message will prompt you to call a phone number provided in the text, which will solicit information about your debit card number.

Do not give out your personal banking information. If you have, contact your bank immediately and let them know what has happened.

Anyone with information that could lead to an arrest is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (870) 935-7867.
