Ark. woman runs for House seat in wrong district

OZARK, Ark. (AP) - An Ozark woman who lives near a county line in western Arkansas says she cannot run for the Legislature as an independent because the Secretary of State's office entered her in the wrong race.

State registrars put Beverly Fox in District 82, but she lives in District 74. The Secretary of State's office says Fox can run for the seat, but must qualify through the Green or Libertarian parties.

Spokesman Alex Reed told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (http://bit.ly/FS4JpD) it appears a map used to look up Fox' address used data from before last year's re-districting.

Fox doesn't want to run under any party affiliation. The filing period for Democrats, Republicans and independents ended March 1.

No primary is set in either seat for May 22. The general election is Nov. 6.
