Fish fry fundraiser held to purchase new drug dog

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The Jonesboro Police Department's K9 Unit and John 316 Ministries held a fish fry at Valley View High School Saturday night.

The fundraiser was raising money for a new drug dog for the department's K9 unit.

The event began at 5 p.m. but by 6:30, they'd already sold 700 plates of food. So many people came through they ran out of fish.

Lt. Rick Elliott with the Jonesboro Police Department said he was surprised by the amount of donations they received from the public.

"It's been a huge success, so we do appreciate everyone that's come out and donated to the cause," Lt. Elliott said. "I think that in the long run the community will see a big impact in the amount of drugs that are taken off the street."

Originally, the fundraiser was going to go toward the purchase of two drug dogs but the Jonesboro Rotary Club purchased the first dog, Titan, for the department.

The fish fry lasted until about 8 p.m.
