JONESBORO, AR (KAIT)- Mothers and sons at University Heights Elementary learned and played together Thursday evening.
It was "MVP Night" at the elementary school. School officials, sons, their mothers or other female role models participated in 10 different events designed to promote literacy.
Assistant Principal Kelli Murray says research shows that when parents get involved in student activities, they perform better in school. She says tonight's event was meant to help parents feel more comfortable with the school and to encourage participation.
The sport-themed event included making pennants, a photo shoot and a football throw.
