Baxter Co. man drowns after falling off dock

BAXTER COUNTY, AR (KAIT)-  Sheriff's officials say a man known for having epileptic seizures died Thursday afternoon after falling off a boat dock.

According to Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery, Robert Ray Comstock, 43 of Hand Cove drowned in Lake Norfork Thursday.  Officers say the sheriff's office received a call just before 3p stating Comstock had fallen off a private dock in the Diamond Bay area off Baxter County Road 857.

Officers say Comstock had been in the water for at least 20 minutes, but some residents who lived in the area pulled him out of the water before emergency responders arrived.  Attempts to revive the man by medical personnel were unsuccessful.

Comstock had been fishing on the dock with his mother, according to the sheriff, when his mother told officers he suffered an epileptic seizure and fell into the water.  Officers say he had been an epileptic since childhood.

Sheriff's deputies, members of the Hand Cove Volunteer Fire Department, Baxter Regional Medical Center Ambulance Service, Arkansas Game and Fish Wildlife Officers and U. S. Army Corp of Engineers Park Rangers responded to the 911 call.
