MOUNTAIN HOME, AR (KAIT)- A Baxter County man is out on bond after being charged with battery in an investigation into an incident that happened New Year's Day.
According to Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery, the investigation led to the arrest of Adam Michael Mudgett. He was charged with felony battery in the first degree.
Officers say they were notified around 10:19p on January 1 that Herman Hackworth of Mountain Home had been found lying on the ground injured at Pigeon Creek Park. Officers say they got another call on the way to the scene by a woman saying her husband had been in a fight at the park.
Sheriff's officials say Hackworth was found with injuries to his head, bloody and seemed incoherent. He was taken to the Baxter County Regional Medical Center. Later, Hackworth was taken to a specialized facility to treat fractures to his face and skull.
Police say Mudgett told investigators Hackworth made him uncomfortable while speaking to him. Mudgett told police when Hackworth tried to grab him; he hit the man two or three times and left him on the ground.
During the investigation into the incident, officers say Mudgett gave conflicting statements to investigators over the following weeks about what happened. Investigators also obtained a voice mail recording where, police say, Mudgett told his friend who had called 911 to deny everything if questioned by officers.
On March 28, Mudgett was arrested and taken to the Baxter County Detention Center. He posted a $25,000 bond and is scheduled to be back in court April 12.
