Hundreds of abused children in Craighead County

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Child advocates took time to remember victims of child abuse in Region 8 Sunday.

Workers from the Northeast Arkansas Children's Advocacy Center set up pinwheels in front of the Craighead County courthouse to mark the beginning of Child Abuse Prevention Month during the month of April.

The pinwheels represent how many children in Craighead County suffered abuse in 2011.

"Of the 13 calls that were called in to the Craighead County to the hotline last year, 335 children were involved in the cases that were found to be true. So, each one of these pinwheels represents a child that was a victim of abuse last year in Craighead County," said Advocacy Center board president Sue McDaniel.

The pinwheels will be on display in front of the courthouse until April 6.
