Okla. man receives life term for baby's death

FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) - An Oklahoma judge has formally sentenced a man to life in prison for the death of his former fiancée's baby boy.

Le Flore County Associate District Judge Bill Welch on Tuesday followed the recommendation of a jury that convicted Aaron Hinson of first-degree murder last month in the May 11, 2009, death 4-month-old Aiden Furney.

The Southwest Times Record (http://bit.ly/HdfdBT ) reports Kayla Furney was living with Hinson when Aiden died and is charged with enabling child abuse.

Hinson and Kayla Furney were arrested after taking Aiden to a Poteau hospital. Authorities say the baby had skull fractures, active bleeding around his brain, bruises and a ligature mark around his neck.

Hinson's attorney, Peter Astor, argued that prosecutors hadn't proved beyond a reasonable doubt that Hinson inflicted Aiden's injuries.
