BAY, AR (KAIT) – The Bay Police Chief has been fired following a domestic call and investigation on April 9.
Bay Mayor Darrell Kirby says Chief David Kelly was terminated Monday morning but would not give reason as to why Kelly was fired.
The mayor say Kelly has 15 days to appeal the temrination to the city clerk in writing and has 30 days after that to address the city council. Kelly will have to receive a 2/3 vote from the council to override the Mayor's decision
No charges will be filed against Kelly for the domestic call, according to Second Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Scott Ellington. Ellington also states that Kelly's wife chose not to pursue charges against her husband.
On April 12, mayor Kirby came to the Craighead County Sheriff's Department and asked the sheriff's department to investigate a domestic call at the Bay Police Chief's house.
Craighead County Sheriff Jack McCann said Bay Police Officer Paul Keith had responded to that domestic call on the night of April 9. No arrests were made.
