Arrest Made in Connection with Jonesboro Burglary

Jonesboro, AR -- New home robberies have been baffling the Jonesboro Police Department.

Police say since the first of the year, 40-50 homes in Jonesboro have been robbed. They say often times these robberies take place in neighborhoods with multiple projects under construction.

"It's all over town. Anywhere there's new home construction going on," said Detective Randy Yancey. "We've had stuff stolen; flooring, appliances, that sort of thing."

Police say they continue to follow leads to find the culprit or culprits in these cases, and now their investigation has brought them to one particular man. Over the weekend, 32 year old Donnie Lee Balfour was arrested for breaking or entering. While in court for that arrest, police slapped him with another arrest for theft by receiving property valued over $2,500.

"He was in possession of some of the stolen property that we had reports on from back in January," said Yancey.

Investigators say a home owner in Jonesboro reported having several counter tops and doors stolen back in January, and this week an anonymous caller told police that they had seen Donnie Balfour with those same countertops.

"All I know is that he was in possession of the stolen property, I don't know if he would be involved in any other or not," said Yancey.

Balfour is out on $25,000 bond for both arrests. He faces an arraignment on April 30th.

If convicted, he could face 3 to 10 years in prison.
