General Franks To Discuss War in Iraq at Harding University

APRIL 2, 2004 - Posted at 11:50 a.m. CDT

SEARCY, AR - Retired Army General Tommy Franks, commander in chief of U.S. Central Command for three years, will address Harding University's Benson Auditorium in Searcy on April 22.  Until his retirement in August 2003, Franks was responsible for all U.S. military operations for 25 countries in Africa, Central Asia and the Middle East.

Franks is speaking as part of Harding's American Studies Institute Distinguished Lecture Series.  Past speakers have included Presidents George Bush and Gerald Ford, Vice President Dick Cheney, and former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

General Franks served during some of the most difficult times in U.S. military history, including the attack on the U.S. Cole, 9-11, and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The 7:30 p.m. presentation is free of charge, and tickets are not required.  Seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis.  More information is available by calling 501-279-4497, or via e-mail at asi@harding.edu
