WBC softball clinches outright AMC championship

Walnut Ridge, Ark. (WBC) - The Lady Eagle softball team has shared the American Midwest Conference regular season championship each of the last two years.  They had the opportunity to win their first outright title in school history if they could win one game of a doubleheader against Stephens College.  There was little drama as they won 11-0 in game one on Thursday, April 19.

They added icing to the cake by winning game two 8-0, improving their record to 41-8 on the season and 15-1 in AMC play.  They are the 15th ranked team in the NAIA.

Williams has now won 15 straight conference games.  The only conference loss was in the first AMC game of the season against Missouri Baptist University.

WBC finished two games above William Woods University in the final standings.   This is the school's first ever outright regular season crown in any sport.

"This was a big goal from day one and to see it come to fruition is very rewarding," said Head Coach Eric Newell.   "Our seven seniors have improved every year, and they deserve this," he added.

The Lady Eagles will return home for a final non-conference matchup with Lyon College on Tuesday, April 24, at 3 p.m. The doubleheader will be played in Walnut Ridge, Ark.

Williams will honor their seven seniors on this day.  The seniors are Wendy Eftink, Laura Tucker, Mallarie Lee, Chelsea Sanders, Bailey Thomas, and Whitney Fowler.

Being the regular season champion assures WBC of hosting each game they play in the conference tournament.  The tournament will begin on April 27.
