JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – Long lines greeted anyone visiting the Bill and Alice Nix Petting Zoo on the Arkansas State University campus this weekend.
The petting zoo officially opened its door to the public Saturday, as families brought their children to interact with a number of farm animals.
Many also received free horseback rides, which Mike Johnson, the university's director of farms, said has always been the most popular attraction.
"We've got five horses that we're using in this," Johnson said. "By the time they get done today of course they'll be tired, we'll go through between four- to six-hundred kids on the horses today."
Johnson also invites the community to stop and pet some more animals on their way into the HMG Health and Fitness Expo Sunday.
The petting zoo will set up a temporary space in front of the ASU Convocation Center from 12 to 5 p.m.
