CPD: Teen in custody for truck theft

CARUTHERSVILLE, AR (KAIT) – Police say they have an 18-year-old in custody after a Caruthersville resident was able to identify him as a car thief.

According to Caruthersville Police, a white 18-year-old male is being held on charges for stealing a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of an accident, and first degree trespassing after allegedly stealing a pickup truck from another resident.

Investigators say the teen is accused of taking a white Quad-cab Chevrolet from 307 W. 8th. They also say the owner of the truck had followed the vehicle.

When police met up with the owner, they say they found both of his vehicles in a collision in the intersection of East 20th and Walker. They say the teen had jumped out of the pickup and ran away from the scene, leaving a shoe behind.

Police say the owner was able to identify the teen in a photo lineup.

The teen was arrested and taken to the Pemiscot County Jail.
